Digital Photography
Your camera is lying on the kitchen counter, sad and neglected. Pick it up and use it! This course will introduce you to some to the basics of digital photography, allowing you to actually make the pictures you see in your mind’s eye. We will learn how to make the technical choices that support the desired artistic results. Later, we’ll learn the secrets of the modern digital workflow, which is all about dealing with your jillions of pictures after you take them. We’ll learn how to organize, enhance, edit, and output to web, print, book, blog and iPhone.

Writing from Life:
Fiction and Memoir for Adults
You have a life. Now make it into fiction. Or memoir. Both forms use similar storytelling techniques, incorporating scenes, dialogue, and story arc. In this 6-week course we will look at the sources of inspiration in our own life stories, from the grand events—the sublime and terrible—to the everyday. A closer look inward will yield stories that embody the joy, anxiety, humor, sadness, and truth that are the backbone of both fiction and memoir. We will read and comment on each other’s work in a safe and supportive environment. Regular exercises will help generate ideas, and allow us to play with styles and techniques. For all levels.

Courses for Teens
The Story in Pictures:
Intentional Photography for Teens
There are many ways to tell a story. We will learn to tell stories with images. This six-week course will teach the basics of photography, with an emphasis on mindfully visualizing and then creating pictures. Today’s modern digital cameras make it easy to push the button and get an acceptable image. We will go beyond that, learning fundamentals of photography to enable us to acquire the images we envision. Developing an “eye” for the right picture, creating intentional and powerful images, and telling the story visually will be our goals.
